Xiaozhu ZHONG FS2017-18, The University of Oxford | to UK

My two-month journey in DPAG with a Fung Scholarship has definitely been a life-changing experience. The programme provided me with the perfect chance to draw instructions from those top scientists in Cardiac Sciences. Surrounded by these amazing brains, I was thrilled by the beauty of science at all times. Additionally, my research topic of PKA pathways gave me a much more profound comprehension of how the cardiac rhythms were maintained.  I also witnessed the power of techniques like FRET and Epac in Cardiac Sciences and was convinced by the necessity to reveal the secrets in our hearts.  The Away Day and the annual party of DPAG was the highlight of the programme, where I gathered with other Fung Scholars. Their innovation, as well as the incredible imagination, really impressed me. I felt so lucky and proud to be a member of this honored group.

Apart from the knowledge this journey had offered, the Fung scholarship has also proved itself to be one fantastic, thrilling and incredible bridge of communication. Working with people from all over the world is exciting and it is always fun to find culture shocks. As strangeness and estrangement faded, friendship replaced them. I had a better understanding of intercultural communication and globalisation. Even though my journey was completed one month ago, the memory is still vivid. And this treasured memory breeds me to be a changed person, in a sense of being more open-minded, independent and thoughtful.

I would like to thank The Victor and William Fung Foundation with all my heart for launching this great programme.  It would be impossible for me to take part in this extraordinary experience without a Fung Scholarship.
