Eliza DICKIE FS2018-19, The University of Oxford | from UK to China

My internship work concentrated on the physics behind geothermal power. I attended research group meetings, laboratories tours, and supervisor meetings. I studied current literature, produced my own codes, and made two presentations of my work. It was very beneficial for me to have an experience working in scientific research as I really enjoyed the environment and it confirmed I would like to work in scientific research in the future. I also had the opportunity to take part in Chinese cultural activities such as calligraphy and Chinese knot making. I made many new friends and learnt a lot about China.

Thank you so much for making this experience possible for me. I’m incredibly grateful for the Fung scholarship as there is no way I’d have been able to go to China and experience so much without it. Spending time in China has definitely given me the confidence to apply for future work abroad and helped me see a research career as a realistic possibility.
