During my internship I spent four weeks in different summer camps around Xiamen and Shanghai. As part of a group of British and international volunteers, I taught lessons about English culture each morning and enjoyed activities each afternoon with the students exploring the local culture and region. In the evenings we would host entertainment and a ‘Global Village’ to explore the international volunteers’ culture. We had a lot of fun and bonded with the students.

 

I stayed a week in a homestay with a Chinese family. I enjoyed this genuine experience of Chinese life – my hosts were very welcoming and we remained in touch.

 

I greatly valued the scholarship and it made the trip feasible for me. I cannot thank my donor enough for enabling me to have these wonderful experiences and lasting memories. I have gained confidence from this experience and loved learning about Chinese culture.
