About the Event

Written by: Rebecca ONG (FS2017-18, Singapore Management University) and Crystal ANG (FS2017-18, Singapore Management University)

To welcome the new batch of scholars who are embarking on their exchange adventure in the coming semester, as well as returning scholars who have already went on exchange, the Fung Scholars Singapore Chapter organised a gathering on 19 Jan 2018.

Crystal and Rebecca began the session with an introduction from everyone present, and invited alumni Jamie to share about the Victor and William Fung Foundation as well as the background information of the Li & Fung Group. Following which, she shared about the history of the Singapore Chapter and its beginnings. This included an overview of the past activities and future plans of the Singapore Chapter of the upcoming year.

One of the key activities in the 2018 Singapore Chapter’s calendar was the annual Fung Leadership Conference, which Jamie shared would be held in October and strongly encouraged the new Fung scholars to attend future Fung Foundation events after they return.

Subsequently, the alumni – Jamie, Ying Ho, Tzhin, Abraham, Crystal and Rebecca shared their various experiences abroad whilst on exchange. Together, they encouraged the Fung Scholars to find a good balance between study and play, and to stay safe during their travels.

To end off the event, the scholars had dinner and networked with one another. It was interesting to hear what the new scholars have planned for their upcoming exchange semesters, such as their travel plans. The Fung scholars also took the opportunity to speak to the alumni about their career experiences thus far.

All in all, it was a fulfilling event. The Singapore Chapter wishes the new batch of Fung Scholars all the best for those embarking on their exchange experience in the upcoming semesters.
